Statutes and Governance of the Commons: History, Economy, and Institutions of Ticino's Local Communities
Institutional Communication Service
23 March 2026
On 26 March 2026, from 3:00 pm at the USI Executive Centre, a public encounter will be held to present the findings of the research project DIGITCHART – Governing the Commons: Building a Digital Archive of Community Charters from the 13th to the 19th Century in Ticino—a project funded under the USI Open Science - Open Research Data programme.
The session will provide an opportunity to present and discuss the primary results of the historical survey and analysis of the statutes of Ticino's local communities from the 13th to the 19th century. These documents represent a precious testimony to local self-governance and the collective management of common resources.
A round table titled "Governance of Ticino's Local Communities: Archival Memory, Public Engagement, and Future Prospects" will follow. The discussion will focus on the current value of these and similar records, and their contribution to contemporary reflection on the governance of the commons, fostering a dialogue between historical perspective, economic analysis, and the institutional dimension.
The encounter is open to the public and aims to encourage dialogue between researchers, institutions, and the community.
