The tourism industry in Ticino, according to data analysed over the past two years, shows evidence of a trend reversal when compared to the previous periods observed, and not only in terms of arrivals and overnight stays in hotels. At the upcoming edition of confronTi, on June 20, 2017, in the Auditorium of BancaStato in Bellinzona, keynote speakers and researchers from the USI Tourism Observatory (O-Tur) will present and discuss their findings on the elements that have contributed to the revival of the tourism sector in Ticino – a recovery, however, that is at levels that cannot be compared to those of the 1980s and 1990s. Key projects developed by the Ticino Regional Tourism Organizations (OTR) and the Ticino Tourism Agency (ATT) will be presented, as well as a selection of ideas the organizations themselves are currently working on to enhance the attractiveness and competitiveness of their respective regions.

The event is organised in two parts. The first one will see presentations of the four OTR representatives: Nadia Fontana-Lupi (Director, OTR Mendrisiotto e Basso Ceresio), Daniela Gugliotta Bagaian (Marketing Director, OTR Luganese), Benjamin Frizzi (Marketing Director, OTR Lago Maggiore e Valli), Fabrizio Barudoni (Deputy Director, OTR Bellinzonese e Alto Ticino). The second part, introduced by ATT Direrctor Elia Frapolli, will see O-Tur researcher Stefano Scagnolari illustrate the analysis and the main trends in the Ticino tourism sector, followed by a panel discussion between experts and participants. The Director of the USI Institute for Economic Research (IRE) will complete the session with a closing speech.

confronTi is organised with two yearly events (in spring and in autumn) by IRE, as part of its research activities in support of the Ticino economy. confronTi is a moment for the discussion and consideration of the Cantonal economic dynamics – structural and situational – in the context of an interregional, national and cross-border comparison.

The event is made possible thanks to the support of the main sponsor, BancaStato, and of the Department of Finance and Economy of the Canton Ticino (DFE).
