Institutional Communication Service
7 November 2022
The second International Climate Finance Workshop, organised by Prof. Dr Eric Nowak, director of the Centre for Climate Finance and Sustainability (CCFS), was held at USI on 2 and 3 October 2022.
The workshop was held over two days and fostered an interdisciplinary exchange shaped by Professor Rasa Smits' presentation on "Atmospheric Forests": a scientific-artistic research project, in which the complex relationships between forests, climate change and the atmosphere are displayed (https://vimeo.com/415663071).
Dr Stibniati Atmadja presented an overview of "The global landscape of projects to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+)," which is highly relevant to the current climate change and deforestation debate.
Also participating in the workshop were Prof. Dr André Guettler (Ulm University & CCFS), Prof. Dr Carsten Mueller (University of Applied Sciences Fulda & CCFS), Prof. Dr Rasa Smits (Liepaja University and MIT), Dr Stibniati Atmadja (CIFOR &CIRAD Forest & Society Research Unit Montpellier), the PhD candidates Sebastian Bleuel (University of Ulm, University of Applied Sciences Fulda & CCFS), Papa Orgen (University of Ulm, University of Applied Sciences Fulda & CCFS) and other PhD students and USI students.
During the two days, the doctoral students presented several working papers on the following topics:
- Compatibility of Forest carbon credits under the EU ETS - long-term development potential from an expert perspective
- Portfolio Allocation and Optimisation with Voluntary Carbon Offsets: Is it Worth the While?
- How do Exogenous Shocks Impact Compliance and Voluntary Carbon Markets? Evidence from the Russia-Ukraine War
The workshop allowed for international communication and discussion of research results developed in collaboration with the USI-CCFS. It assisted in creating and sustaining new and existing scientific networks.
