The 2018 edition of “confronti primavera” will focus on the close ties between nature and tourism. Landscape and environment are often key factors that determine the choices of travelers who choose Swiss destinations. However, those who choose to visit Switzerland for other reasons can hardly avoid being enchanted by its beautiful nature and marveled by the care the Swiss provide to preserve its landscape.

During the conference, on June 21 at the BancaStato Auditorium in Bellinzona, the discussions will investigate how the yearning for nature and sightseeing drive the choices and behavior of tourists, and which are the best ways to be proactive towards the opportunities that this combination offers to Swiss destinations. So rather than discussing in a doctrinal way the definitions of the various terms such as sustainability, ecotourism, responsible tourism, green tourism, etc., the discussants will turn their attention to how a well-valued environment can become a driving force for growth in tourism demand.

The conference is divided into two parts. The first will see the presentations of Prof. Christian Laesser (lecuturer in Tourism and Service Management, and Director of the Research Center for Tourism and Transport and the University of St. Gallen), and of Prof. Elisabetta Norci (agronomist and lecturer in Landscape Architecture at the University of Pisa). The second part will be dedicated to a roundtable discussion, which will be joined by Martin Nydegger (Director of Switzerland Tourism), and by Elia Frapolli (Director of the Ticino Tourism Agency).

The “confronti” conference series is an initiative of the USI Institute for Economic Research (IRE), organized twice a year as part of its activities to support the economy and the Ticino region, which offers two opportunities for consideration and discussion on the economic dynamics of the Canton – both economic and structural – within the context of an interregional, national and cross-border exchange of views.

The event is made possible thanks to the important contribution of BancaStato and of the Department of Finances and Economy of the Canton Ticino (DFE). For information and registrations: www.confronti.ch
