//Antonio Buonatesta holds a degree in psychology from the University of Leuven. For almost forty years, he has been involved in the field of restorative justice in Belgium. He is a founding member and is currently on the Board of the European Forum for Restorative Justice. Since 1998, he has directed the association Mediante, which is in charge of initiating restorative processes throughout the French-speaking Belgian region (Wallonia and Brussels). In 1984, he created a restorative service in the juvenile field, with the prospect of extending mediations to cases of serious crimes. In 1998, at the request of the Ministry of Justice, he launched a similar experience for adults, which soon confirmed the benefits of restorative dialogue in cases of serious crimes. In 2005, in light of these outcomes, he participated in the drafting of very inclusive national legislation that confirms the right to solicit restorative justice services for any crime.
